Koopa Troopa is a common enemy in Super Mario Bros. and found in most levels. When stomped on, it hides in its shell and can be kicked by the player to defeat other enemies.

Types of Koopa Troopas[]

  • Green: Green Koopa Troopas are the normal and the most common one. They can appear in groups of two and three. Several unused Koopas include the Still Koopa, the Scared Koopa that slowly moves backward, a very fast Koopa that is also known as the Pinball Turtle, and a High/Low Koopa that doesn't fall, also known as a KevinTurtle.
  • Red: Red Koopa Troopas are exactly same as the green expect it has red shell and turn when reaching edges. They moslty appear in tree levels. Non-turning red Koopas can be summoned using SMB Utility
  • Winged: Winged Koopa Troopas (Koopa Paratroopas) exist in several forms. Stomping on them once makes them lose their wings. The green form either bounces up and down, or patrols from side to side. The red form hovers up and down. There is an unused golden Paratroopa that is levitating but doesn't move, as it starts green but changes to red when stomped on.
  • Bro: Bro characters usually spawn in horizontal brick structures, as well as the castle grounds in World 8-3. There originally was one planned for World 8-2, but it got scrapped. One spawns after the final pipe in World 8-4. The most common Bro character is the Hammer Bro, but other Bro characters can be found in the game files that don't naturally spawn.
  • Fish: Fish Koopa Troopas (also known as Cheep-Cheeps), have 2 forms: A swimming form, and a flying form. The flying form spawns in the bridge (2-3/7-3) levels as well as the 3rd (turnaround) room in World 8-4. The swimming form only frenzily spawns underwater, with the same enemy data as the frenzy Bullet Bills in Worlds 5-3 and 6-3. Frenzy swimming Cheep-Cheeps can spawn on land using SMB Utility, and when stomped, it changes to a normal Koopa Troopa.
  • King: King Koopa Troopas (Bowsers) spawn on every castle level. It is a boss enemy and takes 5 fireballs to kill. Despite having fiery breath and Bro character power in Worlds 6, 7, and 8, they aren't immune to lava, as they die when their bridges crumble. The first 7 Bowsers are fake, and switch to a different enemy when killed.
